Former Blues Player: Massive Signings Have Set Liverpool Back, United Caught Up in Just a Month
**October 27th Report** – Former Chelsea and Aston Villa striker Tony Cascarino recently shared his thoughts on Liverpool's performances during an appearance on talkSPORT radio.

Tony Cascarino stated, "I'm shocked by Liverpool's performances. Their situation aligns entirely with the assessment I've had of them all season. The match against Brentford epitomized all the issues I see: they conceded over two goals again, and frankly, the 2-3 scoreline didn’t reflect the game accurately. Brentford could easily have made it 4-1."

"Liverpool's defense looked vulnerable against basic set-pieces like corners, free-kicks, and throw-ins. Even when in possession, the team had numerous issues—and that’s without mentioning their other problems."

"Szoboszlai was the only player who seemed to be in form during the Brentford match. Slot is struggling to manage multiple pressing issues simultaneously. When a club signs many new players, we often focus only on their on-pitch performances, but there’s another dimension in football clubs—I’ve experienced it myself—whether the new signings can integrate into the team, both in the dressing room and on the training ground."

"When you bring in a large number of players, most of them need to deliver. Last season, Liverpool had a very stable squad with almost no major changes. This season, they’ve made massive signings, and the result has been chaos."

After hearing Robertson mention that "Liverpool lacked tactical discipline and fighting spirit in the loss to Brentford," Cascarino added, "That in itself is self-contradictory. If the opponent wins more duels, it means they wanted it more—it’s as simple and straightforward as that."

"Let’s review Liverpool’s summer signings: How has Kökçü performed? Pretty poorly. Ekitike is probably the best among the new signings. Then there is Isak, who’s clearly been struggling with injuries and doesn’t look sharp. He hasn’t reached his expected level yet, but hopefully, he’ll improve. Look at Wirtz as well—he hasn’t adapted and is having a tough time."

"Among these four core new signings, only Ekitike has performed decently. But for a team, one new signing performing well is far from enough. Liverpool is struggling badly now."

"Terry Venables once famously said: If a club signs five players and none of them work out, the team will be relegated. If four underperform, the team will be in trouble, fighting to avoid relegation. Conversely, if four or five of these signings deliver, the team can challenge for a Champions League spot. If all five click, they might even compete for the title. I think Liverpool is currently caught in this vicious cycle."

"Last year, everyone was talking about Manchester United, saying they’d need a decade to catch up to Liverpool or regain title-contending form. But now, it seems United have caught up in just a month."

"Over the past few weeks, it’s been evident that United have been performing better. Although Amorim faced a lot of criticism, just last week, United visited Anfield with a clear tactical style and approach, scoring two goals to defeat Liverpool."

"After that, United continued their good form with another win—they also performed well in the victory over Sunderland, who were in great form at the time. So, I’m worried: where is Liverpool’s solution?"

"At the start of the season, after five games, I said Liverpool’s ranking was 'false'—they weren’t that strong. So far, the massive signings have only made them regress. But does that mean they can’t turn things around? Of course not, they still have a chance. However, the manager must now fully exercise his authority and make the players understand what the team needs."

"Admittedly, Liverpool has been affected by injuries and has to balance Champions League commitments—I understand that. But even so, the current Liverpool is just too poor, a far cry from their performances last season."
