Scholes: Goalkeeper a Major Issue for Liverpool; Arsenal Yet to Develop Fluid Attacking System

October 28 Report – Earlier, Paul Scholes appeared on the podcast "The Good, The Bad & The Football" and shared his views on Liverpool and Arsenal.
Scholes remarked, "There are definitely issues at Liverpool right now. When you have a strong team, you aim to strengthen the squad further. After winning the league, you try to bring in new players. But for some reason, that hasn’t been the case for Liverpool—they haven’t managed to build positively on their successes."
"I believe the absence of a reliable goalkeeper is a major problem for Liverpool. It’s clear to everyone how crucial the goalkeeper is in a team, and Alisson’s absence has had a huge impact. I’m not saying Liverpool’s current goalkeepers are performing poorly, but it seems like every shot from the opposition turns into a goal. That’s never a good sign."
"Kökçü is struggling with form, and I feel the same about the two central defenders, Konaté and van Dijk. I thought Konaté was excellent against Manchester United, but in the match against Brentford, when he was tracking back against an opponent, I thought, 'He’s definitely going to catch up and make the tackle!' Yet he almost gave up on the chase. It feels like Liverpool have lost the determination to prevent opponents from scoring."
"With the quality Liverpool have, I believe they can always score goals, and let’s not forget, the season is still young. But they’ve already lost four league games. If this is the level Liverpool are showing now, it’s almost impossible for them to win the league. Typically, title-contending teams lose only two or three games in an entire season."
When discussing Arsenal, Scholes said, "At this stage of the season, you usually see a team and think, 'They’re going to win it this year.' But so far, I haven’t seen that from Arsenal or any other team."
"The closest Arsenal came to showing that kind of title-winning aura was probably in their away game against Newcastle. I thought they were truly impressive in that match. It’s not that I’m unimpressed with Arsenal’s performances overall. Defensively, they certainly deserve praise."
"But I always feel that Arsenal’s attacking play hasn’t fully 'clicked' yet. They haven’t developed a fluid attacking system."
