Paul Pogba’s Monaco Return Delayed by Training Injury

Paul Pogba’s eagerly anticipated return to competitive football has hit another setback after the French midfielder suffered a twisted ankle during training on Friday. The 32-year-old, who rejoined his boyhood club AS Monaco following an 18-month doping ban, was expected to make his debut this weekend against Paris FC in Ligue 1. However, the injury has forced him to miss the match, though it is not considered serious.
Monaco’s manager, Sébastien Pocognoli, confirmed the development, stating that Pogba is expected to resume training next week, barring any complications. “It’s a minor twist, but we’re taking no risks with his recovery,” Pocognoli said. “He’s been working hard to regain full fitness, and we’re hopeful he’ll be back in action soon.”
Pogba, absent from the pitch since September 2023 due to a doping suspension reduced from four years by the Court of Arbitration for Sport, had been progressing well in training. The injury follows earlier delays, including a thigh strain that postponed his initial comeback plans. Monaco remains optimistic, with medical staff closely monitoring his progress to ensure a safe return, potentially next week, as the club aims to leverage his experience in their Ligue 1 campaign.
