Southampton Sack Manager Will Still Amid Championship Struggles
Southampton Football Club has parted ways with manager Will Still following a disappointing start to the 2025-26 Championship season. The 33-year-old, appointed in May 2025 after a stint at Ligue 1 side RC Lens, was dismissed on Sunday after just five months in charge. His departure comes after a 2-0 defeat to Preston North End, marking the team’s third consecutive loss. Southampton currently sit 21st in the Championship table, with only two wins from 13 league games, leaving them three points above the relegation zone.

Still, known for his progressive tactical approach, managed just four victories in 16 matches across all competitions. The club’s statement confirmed that assistant coaches Ruben Martinez, Clement Lemaitre, and Carl Martin have also left their roles. Under-21s head coach Tonda Eckert has been appointed as interim manager, with his first task being Wednesday’s match against Queens Park Rangers.

Group Technical Director Johannes Spors acknowledged Still’s efforts but emphasized the need for a change to improve results. Southampton, under owners Sport Republic since 2022, have now made their sixth managerial change since the takeover, reflecting ongoing instability following last season’s Premier League relegation. The club has begun searching for a permanent replacement.
