Liverpool Boss Arne Slot Confirms Minimal Contact with Mohamed Salah Amid Contract Dispute

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has revealed he has spoken to Mohamed Salah only once since the forward was left out of the squad for Monday’s Champions League last-16 first-leg clash against Inter Milan. The brief exchange, described by Slot as “one conversation,” informed Salah he would not travel to Italy. The 32-year-old Egyptian, whose contract expires in June 2026, watched from home as Liverpool secured a 2-0 victory at the San Siro.
Salah sparked controversy last week by publicly criticising the club for a lack of progress in contract negotiations. In a candid interview, he claimed he felt “thrown under the bus” despite contributing 12 goals and 9 assists in 16 Premier League appearances this season.
Slot admitted surprise at Salah’s outspoken comments and said he is unsure when the forward will return to the matchday squad. “I had one conversation with him to tell him he was not in the squad for Inter,” the Dutch coach told reporters after the game.
With Liverpool leading the Premier League by nine points and advancing in Europe, Salah’s continued absence raises questions about his long-term future at Anfield as the January transfer window approaches.
