Atalanta Stun Chelsea with Late 2-1 Comeback in Champions League

Atalanta produced a dramatic 2-1 victory over Chelsea in the UEFA Champions League league phase on Tuesday night, inflicting a fifth consecutive away defeat on the Premier League side in European competition.
João Pedro handed Chelsea the lead in the first half, finishing calmly past Marco Carnesecchi after a swift counter-attack. The Blues appeared in control until the second half when Gianluca Scamacca levelled proceedings in the 55th minute with a powerful header from a Matteo Ruggeri cross.
The turning point arrived in the 83rd minute when substitute Charles De Ketelaere latched onto a through-ball, rounded goalkeeper Filip Jörgensen and slotted home the winner, sending the Gewiss Stadium into raptures.
The result extends Chelsea’s dismal away record in the Champions League since 2012 and piles further pressure on manager Enzo Maresca, whose side have now taken just four points from their opening six matches in the new league phase format.
For Atalanta, the victory moves Gian Piero Gasperini’s team into the top half of the 36-team table and significantly boosts their chances of reaching the knockout play-off round. The Italian side have now won three of their six league-phase fixtures.
Chelsea return to domestic action this weekend, while Atalanta travel to face Shakhtar Donetsk in their next European outing.
