Arne Slot Expresses Frustration Over Mohamed Salah Contract Situation at Liverpool

Liverpool head coach Arne Slot has openly admitted his dissatisfaction with the ongoing uncertainty surrounding Mohamed Salah's future at the club. In comments reported by Fabrizio Romano on December 12, 2025, Slot stated: “I am definitely not enjoying this Mo Salah situation. We have won the league together and he has done so much for the club. Ideally, you are not in a situation like this with your player.”
The remarks come amid a turbulent period for the Egyptian forward, who has been at the center of controversy following a public outburst after being benched for multiple games. Salah, whose contract runs until the summer of 2027 after a renewal in April 2025, accused the club of breaking promises and claimed his relationship with Slot had deteriorated significantly.
Slot has emphasized that he has “no reasons for not wanting him to stay,” and recent positive discussions led to Salah's recall to the squad for the upcoming Premier League match against Brighton. However, the Dutch manager has left open the possibility of further reconciliation, noting he is a “firm believer that there is always a possibility to return for a player.”
Salah, a key figure in Liverpool's Premier League title success last season with 34 goals and 23 assists, has seen his role reduced this term amid tactical shifts and a dip in form. He was excluded from the squad for a midweek Champions League fixture but is set to feature before departing for the Africa Cup of Nations.
The situation highlights ongoing tensions as Liverpool navigate their title defense, with Slot keen to resolve the standoff internally.
