Mundo Deportivo: Mamadou's Desire for Senegal National Team Call-up Drives Exit from Barça B

January 23 – As previously reported by Spanish media *Sport*, Mamadou Fall has decided to leave Barcelona immediately. He was not even included in Rafa Márquez's matchday squad for last Saturday's game against Andratx and has already reached an agreement with Major League Soccer side St. Louis City SC. Notably, Barcelona originally signed him from MLS club Los Angeles FC, meaning he is now returning to the country where he grew up and emerged as a footballer.
Andrés Cuenca is also set to leave the Blaugrana. As also reported by *Sport*, he will transfer to Como and be immediately loaned out to another club. Sporting Gijón is among the clubs interested in taking him on loan, and more departures could follow soon.
Returning to Mamadou’s case, the Senegalese player’s contract was set to expire on June 30 this year, at which point he would have left as a free agent without Barça receiving any transfer fee. Through this move, the club recoups part of the investment made in the summer of 2024 (when they paid around two million euros) and gains additional Financial Fair Play flexibility and economic capacity to strengthen the squad in the winter window.
**National Team and World Cup Ambitions**
The African player decided to accept St. Louis City’s offer and leave immediately because he has a clear objective: he is eager to represent Senegal’s senior national team and earn a place for the summer World Cup. He understands this goal is unattainable while playing for Barça Atlètic. Mamadou has never been called up to Senegal’s senior squad – it is his dream. He believes MLS will offer him a better chance to achieve it. Financially, this is not the driving factor, as the salary he will receive is roughly equivalent to what he earned at Barcelona.
