Persib’s Resilient Asian Campaign Ends in Round of 16 After Strong Nine-Game Run
Persib Bandung wrapped up their AFC Champions League 2 2025-26 journey in the Round of 16 after falling 1-3 on aggregate to Ratchaburi FC. Although they secured a 1-0 victory in the second leg at Gelora Bandung Lautan Api Stadium, the three-goal deficit from the first leg proved too much to overcome. The narrow home win offered a glimpse of hope, but it was not enough to extend their stay in the competition.
Despite the elimination, Persib’s overall performance this season reflected clear progress. Starting from the play-off round, the team managed to advance to the knockout stage, surpassing last season’s group-stage exit. Under the guidance of Bojan Hodak, Persib demonstrated improved structure and confidence, showing that they could compete consistently at the continental level.
Across nine matches, from the play-offs to the Round of 16, Persib recorded six wins, one draw, and only two defeats. They scored 15 goals in total, averaging more than one goal per game. The attacking unit displayed sharpness and composure, with several key players contributing consistently throughout the campaign. Their ability to capitalize on chances, even under pressure, became one of the team’s defining strengths.
However, defensive vulnerabilities surfaced in crucial away fixtures. Persib conceded 11 goals overall, with heavy defeats against Lion City and Ratchaburi significantly impacting their campaign. Those setbacks ultimately influenced their aggregate result in the knockout stage. While the team showed resilience at home, maintaining an unbeaten home record, their performances on the road exposed areas that require improvement.
Even though they did not reach the quarterfinals, Persib’s journey in the AFC Champions League 2 2025-26 highlighted meaningful development. Victories over Manila Digger in the play-offs and strong results against Bangkok United and Selangor in the group stage underlined their competitive growth. The campaign may have ended in the Round of 16, but Persib Bandung proved they are capable of challenging stronger opponents and continuing their rise on the Asian stage.
