Cristiano Ronaldo Acquires 25% Stake in UD Almería, Signals Broader Football Investment Ambitions

In a landmark move marking his transition from player to club owner, Cristiano Ronaldo has officially acquired a 25% stake in Spanish second-division club UD Almería. The deal, completed through his CR7 Sports Investments company, was confirmed on February 26, 2026, joining the club's existing Saudi Arabian ownership group led by the SMC Group.
Ronaldo, the 41-year-old Al-Nassr captain and five-time Ballon d'Or winner, described the investment as a longtime ambition. "It has been a longtime ambition of mine to contribute to football, beyond the pitch," he stated. "UD Almería is a Spanish club with strong foundations and clear potential for growth. I look forward to working alongside the leadership team to support the club's next phase."
Currently third in LaLiga 2 and pushing for promotion back to Spain's top flight after relegation in 2024, Almería aligns with Ronaldo's vision for ambitious projects. Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano revealed this stake is "just the beginning," with Ronaldo eyeing further investments in promising football ventures worldwide.
The move strengthens ties between Saudi-backed entities and European football, following Almería's takeover by Saudi investors in 2025. As Ronaldo continues starring for Al-Nassr, his boardroom entry adds another layer to his post-playing legacy, blending sporting passion with strategic business expansion.
