Spain Cruise Past Austria 3-0 to Reach the FIFA World Cup

Spain delivered another statement performance at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, defeating Austria 3-0 in the Round of 32 to book their place in the last 16. Displaying their trademark possession football and relentless attacking pressure, La Roja controlled the match from start to finish, leaving Austria with few opportunities to mount a comeback.

The latest match photos perfectly captured Spain's dominance throughout the evening. One image shows Mikel Oyarzabal celebrating his opening goal with Dani Olmo and Álex Baena after breaking the deadlock in the first half. Another highlights the emotional reaction after his late second goal, while additional photos feature Pedro Porro and Pedri dictating play in midfield as Austria struggled to cope with Spain's movement and quick passing.

Spain nearly opened the scoring midway through the first half when Marc Cucurella found the net from a corner, only for VAR to disallow the goal due to a foul on Austrian goalkeeper Alexander Schlager. The controversial decision briefly frustrated the Spanish players, but they remained patient and continued to dominate possession. Just minutes later, Oyarzabal finished a superb low cross from Cucurella to give Spain a deserved 1-0 lead before halftime.

Austria attempted to respond after the break through David Alaba and Marcel Sabitzer, but Spain's midfield trio of Rodri, Pedri and Dani Olmo maintained complete control. In the 66th minute, Pedro Porro doubled Spain's advantage with a close-range finish after another excellent attacking move initiated by Cucurella. The goal effectively ended Austria's hopes of a comeback.

Spain continued to press until the final whistle. In the closing minutes, Oyarzabal completed his brace with a composed finish following another perfectly weighted pass from Cucurella, sealing an emphatic 3-0 victory. The striker's clinical display and Cucurella's two assists made them the standout performers of the night.

The result further strengthened Spain's reputation as one of the tournament favorites. Their balanced squad, disciplined defense and fluid attacking football have made them one of the most impressive teams in the knockout stage. With confidence growing after another convincing victory, Spain will now turn their attention to an even tougher challenge in the Round of 16 as they continue their pursuit of a second consecutive major international trophy.
