Belgium Outclasses USA 4-1 to End Host Nation's World Cup Dream

The United States Men's National Team saw its historic 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign come to a crushing end on Monday night, suffering a 4-1 defeat against Belgium in the Round of 16 at Lumen Field.
The European powerhouse struck early in the 8th minute when Charles De Ketelaere found the back of the net. The home crowd erupted in the 31st minute when American midfielder Malik Tillman leveled the score with a brilliant free kick. However, the celebrations were short-lived; just two minutes later, De Ketelaere struck again to restore Belgium's lead.
The second half proved disastrous for the Americans. In the 57th minute, a crucial miscalculation outside the box by U.S. goalkeeper Matt Freese allowed Hans Vanaken to extend Belgium's lead to 3-1. To make matters worse, U.S. captain Christian Pulisic was forced off with an apparent injury shortly after.
Despite a desperate attacking push by manager Mauricio Pochettino’s squad, Belgian substitute Romelu Lukaku added a final blow in stoppage time, sealing the 4-1 victory.
While the Americans exited earlier than hoped on home soil, Belgium advanced to face Spain in a highly anticipated quarterfinal matchup at SoFi Stadium.
