Vietnam Seals ASEAN Cup Group A Top Spot with 3-1 Win Over Cambodia

Defending champions Vietnam secured the top spot in Group A of the 2026 ASEAN Cup after defeating a resilient Cambodia 3-1 at the My Dinh National Stadium on Friday night. The victory ensures the Golden Star Warriors advance to the semifinals undefeated with 10 points.

Striker Nguyen Dinh Bac opened the scoring in the 18th minute, calmly slotting a low shot into the bottom corner after beating the offside trap. Cambodia, fighting valiantly, found an equalizer in the 71st minute through second-half substitute Iago Bento, briefly silencing the home crowd.

However, Vietnam reasserted their dominance late in the game. In the 84th minute, relentless pressure forced Cambodian defender Im Vakhim into conceding an unfortunate own goal. Dinh Bac then capped off a stellar performance in the 89th minute, chipping the ball exquisitely over the rushing goalkeeper to complete his brace and seal the 3-1 victory.

With this result, Vietnam finishes atop Group A ahead of runners-up Singapore, while regional powerhouses Indonesia missed out on the knockout stages. Vietnam will now look forward to the semifinal stage as they continue their title defense.
