UEFA to Introduce Exclusive ‘Debut Patches’ for Champions League First-Timers

Starting from the 2026/27 season, UEFA is set to elevate the prestige of Europe’s premier club competition by introducing a unique “Debut Patch” for players making their first appearance in the UEFA Champions League.

Under this innovative initiative, debutants will wear a special blue badge integrated into the iconic Starball sleeve patch. This distinctive marker is a one-time-only honor; once the player completes their inaugural match, the blue element is removed, leaving a subtle grey “debut” box for subsequent appearances.

The excitement extends far beyond the pitch. In collaboration with Fanatics and its collectibles brand Topps, the physical patches worn during these historic games will be carefully removed and embedded into ultra-rare, 1-of-1 trading cards. Complete with player autographs, these limited-edition memorabilia pieces are expected to become highly coveted treasures in the sports collectibles market. Furthermore, this initiative will expand to the UEFA Women’s Champions League in the 2027/28 season.
