Five Manchester City Stars Who Could Leave the Club After the FFP Verdict

Five Manchester City Stars Who Could Leave the Club After the FFP Verdict

Manchester City are facing a period of uncertainty after being found guilty of 114 out of 115 alleged Premier League financial breaches. Although the club plans to appeal the verdict and insists that it is not currently under pressure to sell players, the potential sanctions could still have a major impact on the squad. If the consequences prove severe, several key players may begin to reconsider their futures at the Etihad Stadium.
Erling Haaland is arguably the biggest name who could attract interest if City’s situation changes. Since joining from Borussia Dortmund in 2022 for around Rp1.22 trillion, the Norwegian striker has established himself as one of the club’s most valuable assets, scoring 169 goals and providing 30 assists in 205 appearances. Barcelona and Real Madrid have reportedly been linked with a possible move in 2027, while Bayern Munich could also enter the race as they look toward the future after Harry Kane.
Ruben Dias and Josko Gvardiol are two other defenders whose futures could become interesting. Dias has made 262 appearances for City since arriving from Benfica in 2020 and was trusted with the captaincy for the 2026/27 season. However, his limited number of Premier League starts last season could make him consider other opportunities, with AC Milan, Inter Milan and clubs in the Middle East among possible destinations. Gvardiol, meanwhile, recently extended his contract until 2031, but his versatility and technical ability continue to make him an attractive target for major European clubs, including Barcelona and Real Madrid.
Enzo Fernandez is another player whose future could attract considerable attention if City face significant restrictions. The Argentine midfielder joined Chelsea for around Rp2.94 trillion and has become an important part of Enzo Maresca’s plans. His ability to control the tempo, deliver accurate passes and contribute tactically has made him a highly valuable midfielder. Real Madrid have previously monitored Fernandez and could potentially revive their interest, while Bayern Munich may also consider making a move for the 25-year-old if circumstances at City create an opportunity.
Gianluigi Donnarumma completes the list of players who could become targets for other European giants. Chelsea showed interest in the Italian goalkeeper last summer, although the club eventually chose another route by signing Emiliano Martinez. At 27, Donnarumma remains considerably younger and has extensive experience at the highest level. Manchester United have also considered him in the past, although Senne Lammens has since established himself as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper and was recognised as the Premier League’s best signing of the 2025/26 season. Much will therefore depend on the outcome of City’s appeal and the eventual sanctions, with Chelsea and Manchester United potentially keeping an eye on Donnarumma’s situation.
