Kane: "I Had an Incredible Season Last Year, and of Course I See Myself as a Ballon d'Or Contender"

October 22 – In the third round of the Champions League, Bayern Munich drew 2-2 at home with Arsenal. After the match, Bayern striker Harry Kane spoke to DAZN, saying the draw was a fair result. He noted that his team had momentum in the second half but failed to kill the game off, and were ultimately pinned back and punished by Arsenal late on. He also discussed his assist and the Ballon d'Or.
Q: Harry, a fierce match against Arsenal. How do you assess tonight's performance?
Kane: Yeah, I think it was a good performance. For most of the game, especially at the start of the second half, we came out with real intensity. We looked threatening, scored, and had a moment where we could have killed the game. We had momentum, and they looked tired. But then we dropped into a low block for the final 15 to 20 minutes and found it hard to get out. We didn't keep the ball well enough, and they punished us with the goal. So overall, a draw is probably a fair result. I think we could have been a bit more clinical in the final third, but look, there are a lot of games, players are injured, and we had players missing tonight as well, so in the end we take a point and move on.
Q: Against Arsenal, against that kind of high-pressing intensity, what were the specific details?
Kane: Yeah, it was a battle. Every duel mattered. They obviously launched a lot of attacks from Raya's long balls, then competed for second balls and built from there. I think we handled it pretty well for the most part. As the game stretched late on, they grew into it. They're a physically strong team. Like I said, at this stage, with the number of games we're playing, it comes down to every detail. Yeah, maybe we weren't quite good enough tonight to win it.
Q: You had a brilliant assist in the first half. In terms of your position, was tonight all about your playmaking ability?
Kane: Yeah, especially in the first half, we talked a lot about testing how tightly their centre-backs follow me. Sometimes I dropped in, sometimes I found space, and then obviously with Alphonso's pace running in behind, I thought that was a dangerous outlet all night. Yeah, it was good to provide an assist to help the team get back into the game. That was an important moment before half-time. Then like I said, I thought we had some good moments, just not enough over the full 90 minutes.
Q: You have one trophy in hand, and the next one is on Monday. Ballack is certain you'll win on Monday. Does he know something I don't?
Kane: I hope he knows something I don't, because we'll have to wait and see. But first we have a game, away at Freiburg on Sunday, a tough away match, and of course I'm looking forward to that night.
Q: Do you see yourself as one of the favourites on Monday?
Kane: Yeah, of course I do. I've spoken about it. I had an incredible season last year, and I'm very proud of it. Winning the Ballon d'Or would be amazing, no question. But the voting finished a long time ago, so there's nothing I can do now. Just wait for that night and see what happens.
