Celta Vigo Stun Real Madrid with Historic 2-0 Victory at the Bernabéu
Celta Vigo delivered one of the biggest shocks of the 2025–26 La Liga season on Sunday night, defeating Real Madrid 2-0 at the Santiago Bernabéu to inflict only the second home league defeat on the champions in over two years.

Swedish midfielder Williot Swedberg stole the headlines with a brilliant brace, opening the scoring in the 53rd minute with a composed finish after a swift counter-attack and sealing the result in stoppage time with a clinical strike past Thibaut Courtois. Argentine forward Franco García had doubled the lead in the 64th minute, capitalising on defensive disarray to slot home from close range.

Real Madrid’s misery was compounded in the 89th minute when substitute Álvaro Carreras received a straight red card for a reckless challenge, reducing the hosts to ten men in the closing stages. Despite dominating possession and creating numerous chances, Carlo Ancelotti’s side failed to find the net, with Kylian Mbappé and Vinícius Júnior both denied by inspired goalkeeping from Vicente Guaita.

The result lifts Celta Vigo into the European places and ends Real Madrid’s 15-match unbeaten home streak in La Liga. Ancelotti described the performance as “unacceptable,” while Celta boss Claudio Giráldez praised his team’s resilience and clinical finishing in a “perfect away display.”
