Chelsea Legend Thiago Silva Set for Emotional Fluminense Return this Summer

Chelsea defender Thiago Silva is set for an emotional return to his boyhood club Fluminense this summer after both clubs confirmed the move on Tuesday. The 39-year-old will leave Stamford Bridge after the final game of the Premier League season against Bournemouth on May 19th.

Silva's departure marks the end of a successful four-year spell with the Blues. During his time in London, the veteran center-back established himself as a leader in the Chelsea defense, winning the Champions League, FIFA Club World Cup, and UEFA Super Cup.

Fluminense announced that Silva will arrive in Rio de Janeiro "in around a month's time" to join his new teammates for pre-season training. This suggests he could be available for selection by early June.

Silva began his professional career with Fluminense in 2002, making over 100 appearances before moving to Europe in 2004.  This return represents a homecoming for the Brazilian defender, allowing him to end his illustrious career where it all began.

While there was some interest from other Premier League clubs, Silva has opted for a sentimental return to Fluminense.  Chelsea fans will undoubtedly remember him fondly for his leadership and experience at the back.
