Fluminense confirm Thiago Silva transfer as Chelsea defender seals return to Brazil
Chelsea defender Thiago Silva is set to join Fluminense after his current contract with Chelsea concludes at the end of this season. Silva had bid farewell to Chelsea last month in an emotional message.
Silva, who is 39 years old, impressively performed at Stamford Bridge since his move in the summer of 2020, even contributing to their Champions League victory the following year. Silva was named Chelsea’s Player of the Year at the end of the 2022/23 season, having made over 150 appearances for Chelsea.
Looking ahead, Silva will recommence his football career with his primary club, Fluminense, which he will return to during the twilight years of his career. Moreover, he has signed a contract that will extend up to 2026 with the Brazilian side.
Fluminense announced this news on Tuesday afternoon with the message: “The Monster is back”. Chelsea has agreed to let Silva leave in advance to commence his tenure at his new club, and he will bid goodbye after their final Premier League game of the season against Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge next week.
However, Silva will only initiate training with Fluminense then, and can only debut after the transfer window initiates in July. As per a statement from Fluminense, Silva will join the squad led by coach Fernando Diniz roughly one month from now, upon his contract completion with Chelsea.
Silva will complete his moving procedures and will only be eligible to participate in club games from July 10th, which is when the international transfer window will open.
