​Arne Slot Delivers Blunt Assessment on Premier League Title Race After Liverpool's Latest Defeat

Premier League champions Liverpool were defeated by Manchester City on Sunday night.  

With five losses in their last six Premier League matches, Arne Slot has completely dismissed any discussions about the title race.  

Manchester City, under Pep Guardiola, dominated Liverpool with a 3-0 victory, deepening the struggles of the Reds. The result dropped Liverpool to eighth place in the Premier League table, and Slot offered a brutally honest evaluation of the team's current reality after the loss.  

"The last thing I'm talking about right now is the title race," Slot stated. "We need to focus on getting results first—one result at a time—and we must achieve that before even considering such matters. The reality is we are now in eighth place."  

"The title race should be the last thing on our minds. That was something we could contend for last year and the season before that. But we need to improve—that's obvious."  

Following a significant win against Real Madrid in their previous match, Liverpool were completely outplayed by Manchester City, and the Reds' captain echoed a similar sentiment.  

"In every aspect of football, they [Manchester City] were better than us in the first half," Slot admitted.  

"I want to emphasize that being 2-0 down at halftime was a fair reflection of the game. Of course, everyone is disappointed."  

The loss to Manchester City marked Liverpool's fifth league defeat of the season, already surpassing the total number of losses they suffered during their Premier League title-winning campaign under Arne Slot's debut season on the sidelines.  

After 11 league matches, Liverpool have collected 18 points—10 points fewer than at the same stage last season when they were leading the table by five points.  

Although there is still a long way to go in the season, Arne Slot's Reds must improve significantly, or their path to defending the Premier League title could be all but over by the time the 2026 calendar rolls around.
