Paris Saint-Germain Claim Historic Sextuple with Intercontinental Cup Triumph

Paris Saint-Germain etched their name into football history on December 17, 2025, defeating Flamengo 2-1 in a penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw in the FIFA Intercontinental Cup final at Ahmad bin Ali Stadium.
Georgian winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia opened the scoring for PSG in the 38th minute with a clinical finish. Flamengo equalized in the 62nd minute when Jorginho converted a penalty following a foul by Marquinhos.The match remained deadlocked through extra time, despite chances for both sides, including a late clearance off the line by Marquinhos.
In the shootout, PSG goalkeeper Matvey Safonov emerged as the hero, saving four of Flamengo's five penalties. Successful spot-kicks from Vitinha and Nuno Mendes sealed the victory for the French champions.
This triumph marks PSG's first Intercontinental Cup title and completes a remarkable sextuple in 2025: Ligue 1, Coupe de France, Trophée des Champions, UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, and now the FIFA Intercontinental Cup.Coach Luis Enrique described the year as "unforgettable," highlighting the team's mentality. PSG become only the third club in history to achieve a sextuple, joining Barcelona (2009) and Bayern Munich (2020).The win also represents PSG's maiden global club trophy under FIFA's revamped annual format.
