Solskjær to Hold Talks with United on Saturday; Trio All Interested in Interim Role

Solskjær to Hold Talks with United on Saturday; Trio All Interested in Interim Role
January 10 – According to the latest report by *The Daily Telegraph*'s James Ducker, Ole Gunnar Solskjær will hold face-to-face talks with Manchester United officials on Saturday to discuss the possibility of returning to the club as interim manager until the end of the season.

It has been over seven years since Solskjær first took charge of United in December 2018, initially as interim manager following the departure of José Mourinho.

The 52-year-old coach hopes to once again convince United to appoint him, as the club searches for a temporary replacement for Rúben Amorim.

It is understood that Solskjær's main rival, **Michael Carrick**, met with United officials on Thursday and outlined his plan to take over and guide the team through the next five months. This comes after Amorim was dismissed on Monday morning.

The 44-year-old Carrick previously served as a first-team coach under Solskjær alongside Kieran McKenna and took charge as interim manager for three matches after Solskjær's sacking in November 2021.

The former United midfielder has been out of work since being dismissed by Middlesbrough in June last year after failing to lead the Teesside club to the Championship play-offs.

Solskjær has already held an informal remote discussion with United officials but has not yet met them in person.

On Thursday, he traveled to Molde to attend the funeral of his close friend, former Norway national team manager Åge Hareide. Since leaving United, his only managerial role was a seven-month stint at Beşiktaş, from which he was dismissed by the Turkish club last August.

Just 72 hours before his official dismissal, Amorim confronted United's Football Director Jason Wilcox and CEO Omar Berrada in a heated meeting. Now, they face a crucial decision as the club strives to secure European qualification this season.

United currently sit seventh in the Premier League, with a target set last summer to finish at least in the top six. Despite three consecutive draws against relegation-threatened sides over the past ten days, they remain in contention for a potential Champions League spot.

**Darren Fletcher**, who took interim charge for Wednesday's 2-2 away draw against Burnley, will remain in the dugout for Saturday's FA Cup third-round tie at home to Brighton.

While Fletcher has remained tight-lipped about his own future, it is believed he is also keen to be considered for the interim role until the end of the season, alongside Carrick and Solskjær.
