Live European Coefficients: Premier League Leads, La Liga Surpasses Bundesliga to Move into Second Place

Live European Coefficients: Premier League Leads, La Liga Surpasses Bundesliga to Move into Second Place
March 13 – With the conclusion of all UEFA competition Round of 16 ties, the European coefficients have been updated in real time.

The Premier League has now all but secured an additional fifth Champions League spot for next season. Meanwhile,  La Liga , thanks to the strong performances of its remaining clubs this round (Real Madrid, Atlético Madrid, and Rayo Vallecano all won; Barcelona and Celta Vigo drew; only Real Betis lost), has provisionally overtaken the Bundesliga to move into  second place  for the first time since the season began.

According to UEFA's coefficient rules, teams earn bonus points for their league each time they advance a round in the knockout stages. The specific points awarded are: from the Round of 16 onward, teams earn  1.5 bonus points per round  in the Champions League,  1 point per round  in the Europa League, and  0.5 points per round  in the Europa Conference League.

The allocation of the additional Champions League spot for this season will follow last season's rule: the  two leagues with the highest seasonal coefficients  will each receive an extra Champions League berth. (Last season, the Premier League and La Liga earned the extra places.)

- In the main stages, a  win earns 2 coefficient points , a  draw earns 1 point . Points earned in qualifying rounds are halved.
- Additional points are awarded based on  final league stage ranking  and  progression through each knockout round . After the league phase, teams ranked 1st to 24th receive ranking bonus points.
- Furthermore, teams earn progression bonuses for each knockout round advanced from the Round of 16 onward (UCL: 1.5 pts/rd, UEL: 1 pt/rd, UECL: 0.5 pts/rd).
- A league's seasonal coefficient is the  average  of points earned by all its participating clubs. Teams eliminated in qualifying rounds are included in the average calculation (as a "denominator") but earn no further points.
