World Cup: Saudi Arabia Hold Uruguay to Thrilling 1-1 Draw

Saudi Arabia produced another stunning World Cup opening performance, holding South American giants Uruguay to a thrilling 1-1 draw in their Group H opener on Tuesday.
Four years after shocking Argentina in Qatar, the Green Falcons proved their resilience once again. Saudi Arabia broke the deadlock in the 40th minute when defender Abdulelah Al-Amri reacted quickest to a rebounded corner, slotting the ball home to give his side a shocking 1-0 lead before halftime.
Uruguay, led by tactical mastermind Marcelo Bielsa, dominated possession in the second half but struggled to breach the disciplined Saudi defense. Their persistence finally paid off in the 79th minute. After a powerful header was parried away, Maximiliano Araújo latched onto the loose ball, scoring from a tight angle to equalize.
Saudi goalkeeper Mohammed Al-Owais was the undisputed hero of the match. He made five crucial saves, including a spectacular stoppage-time stop against Federico Valverde to deny Uruguay a late winner. With Spain and Cape Verde drawing 0-0 earlier, Group H remains entirely deadlocked. Every team sits on one point, setting up an explosive second round of fixtures.
