SER: Real Madrid Received €1.87 Billion in Public Aid Between 1960s and 2025, Top Among Three Clubs

September 3 – The SER radio program El Larguero reported on a study regarding public aid received by Spanish football clubs. Host Sique Rodríguez stated that researcher Carlos Sánchez had compiled data on various forms of assistance granted by public institutions to clubs including Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Atlético Madrid from the 1960s through to 2025.

Journalist Albert Llimós explained that according to the study, 71% of the aid received by Real Madrid came from items such as land reclassification projects. The study also adjusted the value of aid from different periods to current monetary equivalents. For example, assistance from the 1980s was converted to present-day value for a fair comparison.

Under this calculation method, from the mid-1960s to 2025, Real Madrid received approximately €1.87 billion in public aid – the highest among the three clubs. Barcelona received around €435 million, and Atlético Madrid received approximately €344 million.

Sique Rodríguez subsequently confirmed that the study was based on financial reports published by each club. Albert Llimós added that the earliest available records date back to the mid-1960s.
