​Journalist: Man City Submitted €150m Bid for Álvarez; After Rejection, Quickly Signed Enzo

According to Spanish journalist Roberto Gómez, Manchester City made a late attempt to re-sign Argentine striker Julián Álvarez in the final stages of the summer transfer window, submitting a €150 million offer to Atlético Madrid. However, the deal stalled because the player himself did not respond. City then swiftly turned their attention to signing Enzo Fernández.

Speaking on the La Tribu programme on Marca radio, Roberto Gómez revealed: "Over the weekend, Manchester City submitted a €150 million offer to Atlético Madrid to sign Julián Álvarez."

When discussing the connection between this offer and Enzo's move to City, Roberto said: "Do you know what that €150 million was originally intended for?" He went on to explain that City's primary target was Álvarez, not Enzo.

"City did communicate their offer to Atlético. But because the player didn't respond or express any opinion, the deal didn't progress. City then moved quickly and unexpectedly to complete another operation," Roberto said.

The journalist argued that City's pursuit of Álvarez reflects the Argentine forward's growing influence in the transfer market. "Manchester City sending a €150 million offer to Atlético is headline news in itself," he added. He also mentioned that Real Madrid had previously been linked with a similar offer of €150 million for Álvarez.

"The numbers surrounding Álvarez this summer have been staggering. Neither Barça's €100 million, nor Madrid's €150 million, nor City's €150 million – in the end, the young man stayed at Atlético," Roberto concluded.

He also praised Atlético for their firm stance throughout the process. According to Roberto, Atlético president Enrique Cerezo, CEO Miguel Ángel Gil Marín, and the board made it clear from the start that Álvarez would not leave: "On this matter, it was Atlético who kept their word. Cerezo and Gil Marín said from day one that he would not leave."

He added that Álvarez has now reintegrated with the squad, training alongside his teammates and receiving support from his Argentine compatriots, friends, and the entire Atlético team. With the transfer window closed, Atlético hope the Argentine forward can regain his match fitness and return to a central role after a summer dominated by transfer speculation.
