​​Mundo Deportivo: Barça's Captains for the New Season Are Raphinha, Pedri, Eric García, De Jong, and Yamal

According to Mundo Deportivo journalist Ferran Martínez and deputy editor Fernando Polo, Barcelona have officially confirmed their five captains for the season: Raphinha, Pedri, Eric García, Frenkie de Jong, and Lamine Yamal.

Head coach Hansi Flick played a key role in the process. Before the Gamper Trophy, he had appointed Raphinha, Pedri, and Eric García as interim captains while the team awaited a final vote — and that arrangement has now been formalised for the season.

Mundo Deportivo understands that Flick decided to keep Raphinha and Pedri as first and second captains without a vote, recognising their influence and leadership both on the pitch and in the dressing room. Raphinha, in particular, is one of Flick's most trusted players.

Raphinha lifted the Gamper Trophy as first captain and wore the armband during the team's presentation to fans, scoring and being named MVP of the match.

After confirming the first two captains, Flick opened the remaining three spots to a player vote. The vote took place yesterday, with Eric García, De Jong, and 19-year-old Lamine Yamal being chosen.

Eric García is highly respected within the squad for his discipline and commitment. Under Flick's trust over the past two seasons, his leadership has grown noticeably. Some club officials had already considered him a strong candidate for the role.

De Jong's selection was widely expected. He had already been a captain before and is well-respected in the dressing room. Following Ter Stegen's departure, De Jong is now the longest-serving player in the first-team squad.

Yamal's inclusion is the biggest surprise of the five, though given his status as a key player for the team, the result is still understandable. Despite being only 19, he has already become one of Barça's on-pitch leaders.

Flick is expected to address the captaincy decision in his pre-match press conference ahead of Barça's game against Valencia, scheduled for 1 PM local time today.
