Stoppage-Time Drama: Werder Bremen Stuns Borussia Dortmund in 2–2 Draw

Borussia Dortmund threw away a two-goal lead in a dramatic final sequence, drawing 2–2 against Werder Bremen at Signal Iduna Park on Friday evening in Matchday 5 of the Bundesliga.

After a tightly contested, goalless first half, Niko Kovač’s side broke through in the 80th minute when Daniel Svensson finished off a rapid fast break. Five minutes later, center-back Nico Schlotterbeck powered home a header from Joey Veerman’s corner kick to double the hosts' advantage, seemingly putting the match out of reach.

However, Werder Bremen mounted a sensational late fightback. Midfielder Ludovit Reis pulled one back for the visitors in the 88th minute with a long-range strike into the bottom corner. Deep into stoppage time (90+2'), former BVB striker Niclas Füllkrug equalized with a towering header following a set-piece sequence to secure a dramatic point for Bremen.

Despite commanding 69% of possession and firing 18 shots—11 of which were on target—Dortmund was repeatedly frustrated by Bremen goalkeeper Karl Hein. The draw keeps Dortmund at 13 points, opening the door for Bayern Munich to match them at the top of the table.
