Thauvin Shines as 10-Man Lens Holds Off Lyon in 2–1 Thriller

RC Lens weathered a late red card and a dramatic final assault to secure a hard-fought 2–1 victory over Olympique Lyonnais at Stade Bollaert-Delelis on Friday evening in Ligue 1.

Guided by a masterclass performance from captain Florian Thauvin, the home side controlled the opening half. Lens broke the deadlock in the 36th minute when Thauvin picked out Florian Sotoca, who slotted home to reward his team’s dominant play.

Lens doubled their advantage in the 76th minute as Matthieu Udol met another sublime Thauvin cross to head past Lyon goalkeeper Dominik Greif. However, the match took a chaotic turn eight minutes later when goalscorer Udol received a straight red card for a rash challenge.

Lyon immediately capitalized on the numerical advantage. In the 85th minute, substitute Khalis Merah curled a precise right-footed strike into the bottom corner to cut the deficit in half.

Despite intense stoppage-time pressure from the visitors, Lens goalkeeper Robin Risser and his defense anchored the penalty area to lock down all three points. The win propels Lens further up the table, while Lyon leaves empty-handed.
