Cope: Vinícius Facing at Least 2-Match Ban & Potential Additional Sanction, Set to Miss El Clásico

Cope: Vinícius Facing at Least 2-Match Ban & Potential Additional Sanction, Set to Miss El Clásico

October 10 – According to Cope journalist Isaac Fouto, after being sent off with a straight red card in Real Madrid's match against Villarreal, Vinícius Jr. could face a suspension of 2 to 3 matches, which would rule him out of the Clásico against Barcelona.

In the 73rd minute of the match, referee Díaz de Mera showed Vinícius a red card. The referee's report stated that Vinícius was sent off for: "Pulling an opponent's hair during the match while the ball was not in dispute."

Isaac Fouto noted that the referee's report specifically points out that the ball was not within playing distance of the two players at the time — a detail that is crucial, as it could mean the action is classified as a more serious offence. As a result, Vinícius is expected to receive a 2-to-3-match suspension, with 2 matches considered the minimum possible punishment.

Additionally, the referee recorded Vinícius's behaviour after the red card in the "other incidents" section of the report. It stated that upon seeing the red card, Vinícius "continued to protest my decision loudly and approached my position in an aggressive manner," eventually requiring his Real Madrid teammates to restrain him. This behaviour, included in the additional section of the referee's report, means the disciplinary committee could impose an extended suspension.

If Real Madrid's subsequent appeal does not succeed, then even if Vinícius receives only the minimum 2-match ban, he will miss the upcoming La Liga fixtures against Sevilla and Barcelona.
