Slot: Liverpool's Future is Bright, 100% Believe the Best is Yet to Come

March 14 – Liverpool manager Arne Slot recently gave an interview to Sky Sports.
On last season's performance
"We are very aware of how difficult the achievements of last season were. We reached the League Cup final and came very, very, very close to eliminating the eventual champions, Paris Saint-Germain, in the Champions League Round of 16. And this season, I think it's safe and fair to say we have struggled much more than last season. Yet, we are still capable of winning something; we are in the FA Cup quarter-finals and the Champions League Round of 16."
"And I think we have a squad that has shown this season that we have improved. These players can still make big strides in the coming years. So, as I have said many times, Liverpool's future is bright."
On recent form
"We haven't been as consistent as we would have liked. But if you look at the last two months, I think the positive results outweigh the negative ones. For me, the only obvious negative result was the loss to Wolves two weeks ago, but we have also won a fair number of games recently. This shows the team and individuals are improving."
"I am 100% convinced that the best is yet to come, because there is still room for individual improvement, and that is already happening. The longer and more these players play together – and this is proven all around the world, successful teams usually play together for a long time – the better it gets. That is also what we are trying to achieve with this group of players."
After a 1-0 first-leg defeat away to Galatasaray in the Champions League Round of 16 in midweek, Liverpool are keen to get back to winning ways on Sunday.
"I know very clearly what we lacked that day. But sometimes, as a manager, it's best to keep that to yourself, or only tell your players and not the media, because sharing my thoughts on that game isn't always helpful. For me, it's clear what we need to improve in every game, but to have a chance of beating Galatasaray, we have to do it."
"I'm not saying we've played the best football I've ever seen, but in eight out of ten games, or even more, we've performed better than the opposition. We've created more chances than them. All the stats are in our favor, but that hasn't always been reflected on the scoreboard."
"Even in the game against Galatasaray, while it wasn't our best of the season, we still had several great chances, we just didn't score. Too many times this season, the first shot the opponent has on target against us, we concede immediately. That changes the momentum of the game. It's not usually helpful. Apart from that, there are other things I need to communicate with the players that we need to do better. But for now, that stays between the players."
On facing Tottenham
"What can we expect? Firstly, because they have a new coach, and he has used different tactics and different formations in the games he's taken charge of. Secondly, eight out of ten teams will approach a game against us with a different strategy compared to their previous seven or eight matches, because I analyze all those games to try and prepare the players as well as possible. Opponents often use different formations against us than they have in previous games."
